A commemorative exhibition entitled "Exodus, 1826-2026" is being jointly organized in Messolonghi by the National Historical Museum (EIM) and the Regional Authority of Western Greece, in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Exodus of Messolonghi. This exhibition aims to provide a concise presentation of the events that transpired during the Second Siege of Messolonghi, highlighting the impactful consequences and its role in shaping the national collective memory of Greece.
The structure of the exhibition is divided into two distinct levels and parts. The first part is dedicated to historical events and is further segmented into three thematic sections: i) The Siege, ii) The Exodus, and iii) Memory. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will encounter a variety of unique artifacts, including paintings, prints, personal belongings, weapons, and attire, as well as medals and decorations sourced from the collections of the National Historical Museum. Furthermore, documents, newspapers, and photographs from the Archives of Historical Documents and the Photographic Archive of the Historical and Ethnological Society of Greece will also be on display, some of which are presented in Messolonghi for the very first time.
This exhibition offers a critical opportunity for the public to engage with and reflect upon a significant chapter in Greek history, commemorating the sacrifices made during the struggle for independence and the enduring legacy of the events that transpired in Messolonghi.
