Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Currently, the number of Lithuanians in the Middle East does not exceed 600
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that the number of citizens in the Middle East is currently below 600, with a stabilization in movement both ways and a recommendation to avoid travel to the region.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that the current number of Lithuanian citizens residing in the Middle East is approximately 600. The ministry has noted a stabilization in the flow of citizens, with fewer individuals requesting assistance to leave the region. Some citizens are now traveling to countries within the region. However, the recommendation against travel to these areas remains in effect.
In light of the military actions that began in the Middle East at the end of February, the Lithuanian government prioritized the evacuation of vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, families with young children, individuals with serious illnesses, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. These evacuations took place several weeks ago, emphasizing the government's concern for its citizens' safety amidst ongoing instability in the region.
Following these evacuations, URM Chancellor AistÄ— StakÄ—nienÄ— announced that no further evacuation flights are planned, indicating a strategy focused on facilitating the return of citizens rather than ongoing extraction efforts. As the situation evolves, the Ministry continues to monitor developments in the region and provide guidance to ensure the safety of Lithuanian nationals abroad.
