Some Lithuanian citizens stranded in the Middle East request assistance to leave, but help is currently not being provided

Over 1,000 Lithuanian citizens are currently in the United Arab Emirates, with many seeking assistance to leave amid escalating tensions, but officials advise waiting for improved conditions.

Lithuanian citizens stranded in the Middle East are seeking help to return home amidst rising tensions in the region. According to A. Stakėnienė, more than 1,000 Lithuanians are currently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with about 400 registered in the Foreign Ministry's system. Out of these, 80 have requested assistance to exit the country; however, they have been informed that help will not be forthcoming for the time being. Authorities are urging them to stay safe and monitor flight availability as the airspace is expected to reopen in the coming days.

In Israel, there are over 200 Lithuanian citizens, but only about 30 have registered for assistance. A total of 18 individuals, including 16 Lithuanians (two of whom are children) and two citizens of other nations, have submitted requests for help to leave. The situation regarding assistance remains uncertain, as officials emphasize that any departures must align with the safety guidelines outlined by foreign governments as well as the dynamics of the ongoing conflict in the region.

The broader context is marked by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, notably following retaliatory actions by Iran after the assassination of A. Khamenei, which has heightened the risk for foreigners in the area. As Lithuania grapples with the safety of its citizens abroad, officials are keenly monitoring developments to provide timely assistance, although current travel advisories recommend caution and a delay in travel plans until the situation stabilizes further.
