Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Up to one thousand Lithuanians remain in the Middle East, they should quickly respond to opportunities
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises approximately one thousand Lithuanians still in the Middle East to act swiftly to secure flights home as alternatives are being offered.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (URM) has reported that around one thousand Lithuanians are still in the Middle East, with significant numbers already making their arrangements to return home. The ministry highlighted that as of March 7, commercial airline GetJet Airlines still had about 70 seats available on flights back to Lithuania, while around 100 travelers chose not to take the offered alternative flights and opted for safer destinations instead. The URM has been actively coordinating with the Lithuanian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates and other diplomatic missions to assist those wishing to leave the region.
Since Saturday, approximately 60 Lithuanian citizens have already been evacuated from the danger zone with the help of diplomatic efforts. The URM emphasized the importance of citizens remaining proactive in this volatile situation. As the security landscape changes rapidly, it is crucial that citizens are prepared to make swift decisions and utilize any emerging opportunities to return home or to other safe countries. The ministry reiterated that they are dedicated to ensuring that seats are available on flights and continuing to facilitate a safe exit for their citizens.
In light of the ongoing situation, the Lithuanian Embassy in the UAE has provided new recommendations for citizens regarding their departure from the perilous region. The ministry encourages Lithuanians abroad to stay informed with regular updates and to monitor the situation closely, as ongoing developments may affect their travel plans and safety.
