S. Famellos: The government chooses limited measures to escape obligations

The president of SYRIZA-PS, Sokratis Famellos, criticized the Greek government in Parliament for aligning with the policies of Trump and Netanyahu and for failing to take significant action to prevent war.

During a parliamentary intervention, Sokratis Famellos, the president of the opposition party SYRIZA-PS, criticized the Greek government for its alignment with the policies of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu. He accused Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of doing 'nothing' to prevent or halt the ongoing military conflicts, asserting that Greece, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, should be taking a more proactive role in international peace efforts.

Famellos expressed concern over the government's reluctance to engage with other political parties to create a cohesive national strategy regarding Greece’s involvement in foreign conflicts. Despite public statements claiming a commitment to non-involvement in wars, the government has not called for the return of Patriot missile systems that, according to reports, have been deployed to Saudi Arabia, raising questions about the government’s true stance on military engagement abroad.

On economic issues related to wartime expenditures, Famellos argued that the government's actions are limited in scope, merely intended to alleviate its obligations. He highlighted a lack of market regulation and inadequate oversight, which he believes has enabled certain individuals to profit while average households continue to struggle financially, emphasizing a need for genuine economic reform to support the populace during these challenging times.
