Sokratis Famellos: Mr. Mitsotakis has tied the country to the chariot of Trump and Netanyahu – Tolerance is complicity

Sokratis Famellos, president of SYRIZA-PS, criticized Prime Minister Mitsotakis for aligning Greece with Trump and Netanyahu, arguing that this represents a dangerous shift towards trampling international law.

Sokratis Famellos, head of the Greek opposition party SYRIZA-PS, delivered a scathing critique of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, accusing him of binding Greece's political future to the leadership styles of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu. Famellos expressed concerns over a potential 'Trumpism' in Greece, emphasizing that the interests of powerful multinationals are dominating humanitarian needs, particularly in times of war and climate crisis. He argued that this trend showcases a dangerous preference for the might of the strong over the principles of international law.

In his statements to the party's political secretariat, Famellos condemned the military actions against Iran, highlighting the tragic consequence of civilian casualties, including the deaths of children. He asserted that such actions blatantly violate the United Nations Charter and fundamental international law principles. Famellos underscored the notion that democracy cannot be exported through violence, saying that democracy involves respect for international norms and humanitarian law.

Moreover, Famellos reiterated SYRIZA-PS's long-standing position against Greece's involvement in foreign conflicts, particularly the war in the Middle East, stressing that military interventions should not be tolerated as they lead only to greater devastation and a disregard for human rights. This stance, according to Famellos, is not only a matter of national policy but also reflects Greece's moral responsibilities in a highly interconnected world where peace should be prioritized over aggressive geopolitical maneuvers.
