S. Famellos to K. Mitsotakis regarding the Council of Political Leaders: 'Do not act like Louis XVI'
The leader of SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance, Sokratis Famellos, criticized Prime Minister Mitsotakis for refusing to convene the Council of Political Leaders in light of the Iran conflict, labeling his stance as 'Louis XVI-like' and emphasizing Greece's unwavering support for Cyprus.
In a recent address, Sokratis Famellos, the leader of SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance, directed sharp criticism towards Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis over his refusal to convene the Council of Political Leaders regarding the ongoing war in Iran. Famellos, using the historical reference to Louis XVI, accused Mitsotakis of neglecting collaborative political dialogue in these critical times. He articulated that Greece's support for Cyprus is non-negotiable, underscoring the importance of diplomatic solidarity in the region amidst tumultuous events, particularly concerning Iran.
Famellos highlighted that the SYRIZA party has consistently condemned the violations of democratic and human rights by the Iranian theocratic regime. However, he argued that the escalating conflict cannot be resolved through further violence or violation of international law. He stated that solutions must come from the Iranian people themselves, lamenting the civilian casualties resulting from the military interventions by the U.S. and Israel in Iran and emphasizing that these actions only serve to entrench a power dynamic that undermines global justice and peace.
Further reflecting on the implications of the Greek government's foreign policy, Famellos characterized its stance as being aligned with U.S. President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, suggesting that it acts as a subordinate to their policies. This observation raises concerns regarding Greece's role in regional geopolitics and the potential ramifications of such alignment, particularly in its relationships with neighboring countries and within the larger context of European diplomacy.
