Significant Investments in Food Industry Continue in Ostrobothnia – Snellman is Building a New Logistics Center in Pietarsaari

Snellman is planning to construct a new shipping and logistics center in Pietarsaari, supported by a €30 million loan from the Nordic Investment Bank.

Snellman is in the process of planning a new shipping and logistics center in Pietarsaari, Ostrobothnia, aiming to enhance its operational capacity and efficiency. The project is backed by a €30 million loan from the Nordic Investment Bank, designated for the logistics center and a new animal feed factory currently under construction in Pedersöre. As of now, the logistics center is still in the planning phase, without any building permit applied yet, but the company is keen to proceed without unnecessary delays due to the existing demand for such infrastructure.

Vilma Wiitakorpi-Björkman, the communication and responsibility director of Snellman Group, highlights that the logistics center will be located alongside the Kuusisaari production facility. Although the timeline for the project is still open-ended, Snellman is optimistic about the potential of the new center to improve their production and logistics capacity while increasing operational efficiency through enhanced automation and improved energy efficiency. This initiative reflects a broader trend in the region, as earlier this year, major players like Valio and Atria have also announced significant investments in Seinäjoki, showcasing a robust commitment to the food production sector in Ostrobothnia.

The announcement of these investments comes in the wake of Snellman Group's record earnings last year, indicating a strong growth trajectory in the Finnish food industry. The developments in Pietarsaari and the surrounding areas not only signify Snellman's expansion but also the evolving landscape of the food industry in Finland, marked by increased automation and a focus on sustainability. The ongoing investments are likely to have a positive ripple effect on local employment and the economy, positioning Ostrobothnia as a key player in the food industry within the Nordic region.
