A recycling plastic factory is moving to a small village in Southern Ostrobothnia – attracting employees with unusual conditions

A new recycling plastic factory is set to open in Ilvesjoki, Southern Ostrobothnia, offering unique employment terms to attract skilled workers.

A new recycling plastic factory, Pramia Plastic, will soon be established in Ilvesjoki, Southern Ostrobothnia, with operations expected to commence by autumn. This facility will recycle plastic bottles into new plastics, creating an environmentally sustainable production cycle. The factory is relocating from Toholampi and aims to entice its existing workforce back with generous and unconventional employment conditions.

Pramia Plastic is offering its returning employees a three-day workweek with 12-hour shifts while maintaining full pay. Additionally, the company will provide free accommodation during workdays and cover travel expenses for the daily commute. Such an enticing offer aims to retain skilled workers, with CEO Marko Mäkinen indicating a strong desire to keep the current employees valuable to the company. He plans to discuss the terms with all existing staff before making hiring decisions for additional local workers.

The initiative reflects a broader trend in the Finnish labor market, where companies are increasingly seeking innovative ways to attract talent amid labor shortages. With only 17 workers in Toholampi, the factory's approach may not only secure necessary expertise but also promote environmental sustainability through the recycling efforts it champions. As the factory opens, it is poised to become a key player in both the local economy and the region's environmental goals, potentially paving the way for similar initiatives in the future.
