MDCN accredits Kwara varsity teaching hospital as training institution
The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has approved the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital to serve as a training institution for the university's preclinical medical program.
The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has officially accredited the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) as a designated training institution for the university's preclinical medical program. This accreditation marks a critical development for medical education in Kwara State and reflects the quality and readiness of both the teaching hospital and Kwara State University. The announcement was made by Yakub Kamaldeen Aliagan, the Head of Corporate Affairs at KWASUTH, following a successful evaluation by the MDCN.
The decision to grant accreditation was shared by the Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Aminat El Imam, who highlighted that the MDCN's approval results from a comprehensive briefing provided to the accreditation team led by Deputy Registrar Nnaemeka Nwakama. The briefing took place at the university's MBA Study Centre in Ilorin, where stakeholders from both KWASUTH and the university presented their preparedness for the implementation of the medical program. This collaboration suggests a strong commitment to enhancing healthcare services and education in the region.
This milestone is expected to significantly advance the standards of medical training in Kwara State, paving the way for the next generation of healthcare professionals to be educated locally. The establishment of such programs is vital not only for the growth of the medical community but also for the overall improvement of health outcomes within the state. By localizing medical training, the university aims to better equip students with the necessary skills while addressing the healthcare needs of the community, ensuring that more healthcare professionals can serve the region effectively.
