Kwara unveils safer birth training to curb maternal, child deaths
Kwara State launches a training program to improve maternal and child health outcomes and reduce preventable deaths.
The Kwara State Ministry of Health has initiated a three-day training program called the Safer Birth Bundle of Care, specifically designed for data collectors, as a strategic measure to combat preventable maternal and child mortality in Ilorin. This effort was unveiled in a statement by the ministry's Press Secretary, Saad Hamdalat, emphasizing the state's dedication to enhancing healthcare services for mothers and newborns.
The training commenced on Thursday, organized with the collaboration of the Strengthening Access to Reproductive and Adolescent Health Project and Laerdal Global Health. The Commissioner for Health, Amina Ahmed El-Imam, underscored the significance of this initiative during the opening ceremony, recognizing it as a pivotal milestone in the state's ongoing reforms aimed at improving healthcare outcomes. El-Imam's remarks highlighted the ministry's commitment to ensuring safer childbirth practices across health facilities in Kwara State.
El-Imam passionately stated that it is unacceptable for women to perish during childbirth, encouraging a shared mission to attain improved maternal health. By fostering a systematic approach to safer childbirth, the program aims to empower health professionals and ultimately reduce the incidence of maternal and child deaths, marking a crucial step towards achieving better health standards for women and children in the region.
