‘The night market that came last year is back this year’…Cheongju Yukgeori permanent night market

The Cheongju Yukgeori market, the largest traditional market in Chungbuk, will operate a night market every Friday and Saturday, featuring various foods and performances.

The Cheongju Yukgeori market, recognized as the largest traditional market in Chungbuk, will once again be filled with vibrant activity as it hosts a permanent night market every Friday and Saturday. Set to open on October 10 and running through July 4, the night market will feature a variety of food stalls and food trucks operating along a designated area in the market. On the first and second Fridays and Saturdays of each month, the parking area will be utilized for street vendors selling an array of tasty and affordable delicacies, while additional food options will be featured in a covered arcade area of about 250-270 meters.

The night market aims to offer local delicacies such as tteokbokki, fish cakes, and lamb skewers, all priced under 10,000 won. Participating Yukgeori merchants will sell grilled quail, spicy chicken feet, and tteokbokki at their food stalls, enhancing the local culinary experience. Alongside food offerings, the market will also feature a performance space for various events, including singing contests and prize drawings, to engage visitors further and create a lively atmosphere for all who attend.

Cheongju City previously held a trial for the Yukgeori night market last year, attracting over 160,000 visitors and generating sales of approximately 2 billion won. Due to its success, the night market has now become a permanent attraction. Additionally, Cheongju plans to enhance the experience with a 'Traditional Market Stamp Tour' that offers rewards for visiting multiple markets and attractions, reflecting efforts to modernize the market infrastructure with a budget of 3.8 billion won this year. The Deputy Director of Cheongju City Revitalization Foundation expressed positive feedback from last year's theme of 'Happiness Under 10,000 Won' and aims to maintain the enjoyable and affordable atmosphere in the nights to come.
