The first Jeongseon Buckwheat Jeonbyeong Festival will be held from the 28th to March 2nd, celebrating the traditional buckwheat pancake and its modern variations.

The Jeongseon district in South Korea is set to inaugurate the first Buckwheat Jeonbyeong Festival, starting from February 28th through March 2nd. This festival aims to highlight Jeongseon's iconic dish, the buckwheat pancake, known for its nostalgic comfort food appeal. The opening ceremony will take place at the Jeongseon Arirang Market with a performance featuring collaboration between master Jeonbyeong chefs and members of the Jeongseon Arirang Arts Group.

This festival not only seeks to preserve traditional culinary values but also incorporates modern adaptations, showcasing various interpretations of the beloved buckwheat dish. Festival-goers will have the opportunity to indulge in traditional buckwheat jeonbyeong, as well as unique variations tailored to contemporary tastes like the Dujjeonbyeong (Dubai-style pancake), and Oh-My-God pancake (spicy chicken breast and greens pancake), alongside other dishes such as buckwheat roll lasagna. In addition, participants can compare local dishes to international counterparts such as Vietnamese banh xeo, Filipino lumpia, Nepali momo, and Uzbek blinchik, all sharing similarities with Jeongseon's celebrated pancake.

Jeongseon has historically been a mountainous region abundant in buckwheat, potatoes, and wild plants, leading to a rich culinary culture centered around buckwheat food. The town is renowned for its various establishments selling buckwheat jeonbyeong and buckwheat pancakes, given its reputation as the 'Home of Buckwheat Jeonbyeong’. Local authorities express optimism that this festival will elevate the brand value of Jeongseon’s buckwheat jeonbyeong and invigorate the regional economy, encouraging visitors to come and experience not just a taste of Jeongseon's specialties but a world of diverse pancakes together with family and friends.
