CPMI of INSS: Federal Police says commission reinserted mobile phone data of Vorcaro collected at the request of the STF
The Federal Police reported that the CPMI of INSS reintroduced data from Daniel Vorcaro's mobile phone, which had been withdrawn as per a Supreme Court order.
The Federal Police of Brazil stated that the CPMI (Mixed Commission of Investigation) concerning the INSS (National Institute of Social Security) has reinserted sensitive data from the mobile phone of Daniel Vorcaro, a banker and owner of Master Bank. This action was reportedly taken at the request of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) following an order to detain sensitive data that had been recovered digitally. The police discovered these reinserted data while executing a directive from Minister André Mendonça, which was aimed at removing sensitive information pertaining to Vorcaro from the Commission's secure storage.
The Federal Police noted that during this operation, it was established that previously deleted data had been reintroduced into the Senate Federal environment. This raised concerns as the action contradicted a judicially established chain of custody regarding sensitive information. The police's report highlights that this incident resulted from a direct request by the CPMI Presidency to Apple to facilitate the reintroduction of information. The circulation and storage of these files outside of the initial control has prompted additional scrutiny into the practices surrounding data management in high-profile investigation contexts.
Moreover, several communications, including messages exchanged between Vorcaro and other parties, have already been identified on the device in question. The significance of this incident extends beyond just the technical mishap; it underscores the sensitive nature of data handling amid political and judicial scrutiny, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to legal protocols when managing data related to investigations involving influential figures. The oversight could potentially impact the investigation's integrity and raise questions about the procedural safeguards in place during high-level inquiries.
