A police operation in São Paulo arrested key figures within the Comando Vermelho faction, including its local chief and a logistics operator for drug distribution in the region.
A recent operation conducted by the Federal Police in Brazil has led to the arrest of a prominent leader of the Comando Vermelho, a notorious criminal organization in São Paulo. The operation took place in Mogi Mirim, where Luiz Paulo Fluete Belém, known as "Pitty," was apprehended for his role as the head of a criminal cell associated with the faction. In addition to him, law enforcement also detained a woman believed to be managing drug distribution logistics across the Southeast region of Brazil.
The Comando Vermelho is known for its strategy of infiltrating local gangs by providing financial support and weaponry to promote territorial disputes. The arrests were highlighted by Colonel Cleotheos Sabino, the Military Police commander, who indicated that Pitty had a significant role in organized crime within the area. This operation showcased the ongoing efforts to dismantle the command structure of the Comando Vermelho in São Paulo, which continues to pose a challenge to public safety.
In total, 24 individuals were arrested during this operation, with five apprehended in the Campinas region. Authorities also managed to block assets worth up to R$ 70 million connected to the faction's activities. This significant crackdown may pave the way for further investigations into the drug distribution networks and underscore the enforcement actions taken against organized crime in Brazil.
