Federal Police carries out operation against Comando Vermelho in the interior of São Paulo and 14 other states
Brazil's Federal Police executed a major operation against the Comando Vermelho gang, targeting trafficking networks across 15 states.
On Wednesday, the Federal Police of Brazil executed a significant operation involving 174 search and seizure warrants and 107 arrest warrants aimed at dismantling the drug and arms trafficking operations led by the Comando Vermelho and affiliates of the First Command of the Capital (PCC). The extensive operation covers multiple states including São Paulo, Alagoas, Amazonas, and several others across Brazil.
In Campinas, São Paulo, the police have specifically focused on 37 individuals suspected of ties to the Comando Vermelho, with temporary arrests in place and 34 locations authorized for searches. These targeted actions highlight the intensifying efforts by law enforcement to combat the surge in violent crime linked to turf wars between criminal factions, especially concerning drug trafficking.
Additionally, the operation extends far beyond São Paulo, reaching as far as Recife in Pernambuco, where the police have targeted a group purportedly involved in both drug and arms trafficking. The overarching goal of this operation reflects a broader national strategy to crack down on organized crime, which poses a significant challenge to public safety and law enforcement across Brazil.
