Oyo impounds 60 motorcycles over QR code jackets violations

The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority has seized 60 motorcycles for non-compliance with the state's QR code jacket policy as part of a new enforcement initiative.

The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has conducted a significant enforcement operation that resulted in the impounding of 60 commercial motorcycles in various locations across Ibadan, including Mokola, Gate Bus Stop, Idi-Ape, and Iwo Road. This initiative, which began on Tuesday, is part of the state's effort to enforce a new policy requiring commercial motorcycle operators to wear QR code jackets that facilitate better regulation and accountability in the transportation sector. The enforcement drive reflects the government's commitment to improving safety and order on the roads.

The OYRTMA's Chairman, Adekoya Adesagba, emphasized the need for compliance, expressing disappointment over the continuing disregard for the policy by some motorcycle operators despite prior warnings and awareness campaigns. Adesagba pointed out that the enforcement of the QR code jacket policy is not merely a bureaucratic measure but a critical step towards ensuring the safety of lives and property on the roads. He reiterated that the government's intention is to protect both the operators and the passengers that rely on their services.

The operation to impound non-compliant motorcycles is part of broader efforts by the Oyo State government to instill order in the transport system and enhance security. The QR code jackets are designed to make it easier for authorities to identify and regulate motorcycle operators, thereby reducing criminal activities associated with commercial motorcycle operations. The outcome of this enforcement exercise may lead to stricter regulations and heightened awareness among motorcycle operators regarding compliance with safety and operational standards in the state.
