The Brazilian federal government will distribute R$ 80 million to over 68,000 families in Piauí as part of the Safeguard Guarantee program aimed at supporting farmers affected by adverse weather conditions.

On Wednesday, the Brazilian federal government announced the approval of the disbursement of funds from the Safeguard Guarantee program for the 2024-2025 year, which will benefit 68,456 families across 123 municipalities in Piauí. Each family will receive R$ 1,200, with the payments scheduled according to the Bolsa Família calendar. This initiative is crucial in providing support to family farmers dealing with production losses due to droughts or excessive rainfall.

The Safeguard Guarantee program, as articulated by the federal government, aims to help sustaining agricultural activities and ensuring the livelihoods of family farmers in the region. Clébio Coutinho, the superintendent of Support Actions for Family Agriculture, emphasized the positive economic impact of the R$ 80 million disbursement, which is expected to stimulate economic activities within the municipalities by providing essential financial support to the families directly engaged in agriculture.

This financial injection comes at a pivotal time for many farmers who are struggling due to recent adverse weather conditions. The program not only serves as a safety net for affected families but also aims to bolster the overall agricultural output and economic stability of the communities in Piauí, highlighting the federal government's commitment to supporting local agricultural economies and facilitating resilience against climatic challenges.
