Piauí will invest over R$ 66 million to strengthen family farming
The state of Piauí is set to invest over R$ 66 million to enhance family farming by providing technical assistance to over 100 selected social organizations.
The governor of Piauí, Rafael Fonteles, announced a significant investment of over R$ 66 million aimed at bolstering family farming in the region. This funding will be used to contract technical assistance for 216 projects that involve various social organizations focused on agricultural development. These projects were previously selected, with the aim of enhancing support for local farmers and improving the overall agricultural output in Piauí.
The initiative is designed to benefit over 8,000 families across six specific territories in Piauí, namely Vale do Sambito, Vale do Guaribas, Vale do Itaím, Vale do Canindé, Território Serra da Capivara, and Entre Rios. The plan includes hiring 12 entities that will provide high-quality technical assistance over the next three years. The assistance is intended to help produce professionalized cooperatives, increase income levels, and ultimately add value to the local agriculture sector.
According to Rejane Tavares, the secretary of Family Agriculture, these projects span 78 cities within Piauí. The commitment to strengthening family farming reflects a broader state policy aimed at rural development and poverty alleviation, emphasizing the importance of supporting small-scale farmers in achieving sustainable agricultural practices and improving their livelihoods through professional and technical guidance.
