Suspect in the murder of a merchant arrested in Teresina; victim was killed by rocks

A suspect has been arrested in Teresina in connection with the murder of merchant Joildo Sousa Furtado, who was found dead in his home.

Wlandernilson de Sousa Cerqueira was arrested this Friday morning as a suspect in the murder of 64-year-old merchant Joildo Sousa Furtado in a rural area of Lagoinha do Piauí. The police located Cerqueira in a home in the São Joaquim neighborhood in northern Teresina. According to police investigations led by Delegate Danúbio Dias of the Department of Homicide and Protection of Persons (DHPP), four individuals invaded Furtado's house, which also served as his business, on the night of October 24, where he was brutally murdered by being struck with rocks.

The investigation revealed that another suspect is currently on the run and has a criminal history. This individual reportedly had a prior acquaintance with Joildo Sousa Furtado, raising concerns about the motive behind the crime. Additionally, authorities have identified two teenagers who were also directly involved in the murder, complicating the already desperate situation surrounding the case.

The intruders ransacked Furtado's house and stole his vehicle, which has since been recovered. The violent nature of this crime reflects serious issues regarding safety and criminal activity in the area, as local authorities continue to address the increasing challenges of violent crime in rural communities in Brazil.
