Police in Brazil apprehended a driver carrying 764 electronic items without an invoice during a routine check on BR-116.
In a significant operation against smuggling, Brazilian authorities intercepted a truck on the BR-116 highway in Engenheiro Caldas, Minas Gerais, apprehending a total of 764 electronic devices lacking clear ownership documentation. The driver, a 34-year-old man, was taken into custody after law enforcement officials acted on a tip-off regarding irregular merchandise being transported from Guarulhos, São Paulo.
Upon stopping the vehicle at kilometer 441, officers conducted a thorough inspection that revealed a variety of electronic gadgets, including smartphones, tablets, a laptop, and a collection of e-cigarettes, among other items. The items were packed in numerous boxes, and the police also seized various other accessories like memory cards and batteries, indicating the scale of undeclared goods being trafficked.
This incident underscores the ongoing issues Brazil faces regarding smuggling and the illegal trade of electronics, which poses threats to local markets and legitimate businesses. The operation was part of a broader initiative by the Police Militar Rodoviária aimed at disrupting such unlawful activities and enforcing compliance with taxation laws for goods entering the market.
