MAPOLY alumni seek increased government funding to boost polytechnic education
The president of the MAPOLY Alumni Association has urged the Ogun State Government to provide more funding for polytechnic education, calling current resources inadequate for necessary practical training.
Alhaji Ayinde Soaga, the National President of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Alumni Association, has strongly urged the Ogun State Government to increase its financial support for polytechnic education. During a briefing held at the polytechnic, he articulated that the current funding levels are grossly inadequate, stating that educational institutions like MAPOLY require significantly more resources. He emphasized the critical need for funding that supports practical learning rather than just theoretical studies, which are essential for the hands-on skills that polytechnic students need to develop.
Highlighting the importance of practical training, Soaga pointed out that polytechnic education is oriented toward producing competent graduates who can thrive in various industries. He lauded MAPOLY for its successes in graduating students who excel in diverse fields, such as accounting, mass communication, architecture, and engineering. His comments reflect a growing concern within educational circles about the disparity between funding allocations and the operational needs of polytechnics, which play a crucial role in vocational training.
The call for increased funding comes at a time when many these institutions are struggling with limited resources, hindering their ability to provide quality education and meet contemporary industry demands. The push by alumni for better financial support is indicative of a broader movement among educational stakeholders advocating for substantive reforms in funding policies to enhance the quality of polytechnic education in Nigeria.
