The official running shirts of the Riga Marathon will feature the artwork of Boris Bērziņš

This year, the official 'Nike' running shirts for the Rimi Riga Marathon will showcase the artwork 'Viļņos' by the late artist Boris Bērziņš.

Continuing the tradition of incorporating works by prominent Latvian artists into the designs of the 'Rimi' Riga Marathon shirts and medals, this year's official 'Nike' running shirts will be adorned with the artwork 'Viļņos' by artist Boris Bērziņš (1930–2002). Since the inception of this idea in 2008 with artist Elita Patmalniece, Bērziņš's piece will be the nineteenth to grace the runners of the ‘Rimi’ Riga Marathon, adding to a collection that broadcasts messages about Latvian culture and values to the world.

The choice of Boris Bērziņš's work is particularly significant as this year marks the beginning of a new four-year artistic concept collaboration between the Rimi Riga Marathon organizers and the Latvian National Museum of Art. Starting with the 2026 Rimi Riga Marathon, the organizers plan to launch a previously unseen series of artistic initiatives that will span a grand format and continue until 2029, further embedding artistic expression into the fabric of this sporting event.

This collaboration not only highlights the importance of integrating art into sports but also serves to elevate the global profile of Latvian culture. As participants don these shirts during the marathon, they effectively become ambassadors of Latvian art and heritage, enriching the event's significance beyond mere athletic competition.
