Art on a Shirt and Collective Power in the Long Distances. The 'Rimi' Riga Marathon Is Getting Ready for the Start

The 'Rimi' Riga Marathon is gearing up for its start with a significant increase in registrations, featuring new relay options for participants.

The 'Rimi' Riga Marathon is approaching its start date with excitement as the unveiling of the official marathon shirts indicates. Organizer Aigars Nords noted that this year has seen a surge in participant registrations compared to previous years, with a notable increase in foreign competitors. It is estimated that over 40,000 runners will take to the streets of Riga on the marathon days of May 16 and 17, reflecting the growing popularity of the event.

To encourage more people to participate in longer distances, the marathon and half marathon will also feature a relay format, allowing multiple participants to join forces. This new option is aimed specifically at those who may not feel physically or mentally ready to tackle a full marathon or half marathon on their own, thereby making the event more accessible. Nords explained that this initiative is intended to broaden the event's appeal and promote a spirit of community and teamwork among runners.

Notable athletes are also gearing up for the event; Jeļena Prokopčuka, a top long-distance runner in Latvia, plans to compete in the marathon relay with her family, while beach volleyball world champions Tīna Graudiņa and Anastasija Samoilova are coming together for the half marathon. This emphasis on showcasing talent alongside a vibrant community event marks the Riga Marathon as a significant occasion in Latvia's sporting calendar, inviting all to participate, whether as runners or supporters.
