It has been revealed how funds for roads will be distributed this year

Lithuania allocates €436.4 million for road development this year, with a significant portion directed towards state road expansion.

The Lithuanian government has approved a budget of €436.4 million for road development in 2023, with over half of this amount, approximately €230 million, earmarked for the expansion of state roads. This decision reflects the government's commitment to improving infrastructure, which was confirmed during a Cabinet meeting overseen by the Ministry of Transport.

Among the €230 million allocated, €68.5 million is specifically reserved for state road projects in 2026, while the remainder will support the activities of transport companies under the ministry’s jurisdiction. Significant funding includes €130 million for the Road Maintenance Company and €23 million for the state road administrator 'Via Lietuva.' This financial distribution emphasizes the government's focus on maintaining and developing key transportation routes crucial for economic growth and connectivity.

Additionally, the budget includes allocations for various initiatives, such as €3.8 million to subsidize ferry tickets for the Smiltynė ferry service from Klaipėda to the Curonian Spit, alongside €1.38 million for the Police Department to manage traffic violation data and €1.9 million for the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration (LTSA). Starting from 2027, the LTSA will take on the responsibility of controlling a new road fee for heavy vehicles through an electronic tolling system, indicating a shift toward more modern and efficient toll collection methods in Lithuania.
