Wolt reported to the police for misleading consumers
Wolt Denmark has been reported to the police by the Consumer Ombudsman for allegedly misleading marketing practices regarding a discount offer.
The Consumer Ombudsman in Denmark has taken action against Wolt Denmark, reporting the company to the police for a breach of marketing laws. This comes in light of allegations that Wolt engaged in deceptive marketing practices by promoting a discount that consumers were unlikely to achieve. Specific complaints indicate that between August 20 and October 24, 2025, Wolt sent push notifications to approximately 45,000 users, advertising a 25% discount for purchases over 189 kroner.
However, the discount was reportedly capped at 30 kroner, which effectively meant that the maximum achievable discount was only about 16%. This discrepancy led the Consumer Ombudsman to characterize Wolt's marketing as misleading and potentially influential on consumer purchasing decisions. Torben Jensen, the Consumer Ombudsman, emphasized that promotions claiming a 25% discount must provide a genuine opportunity for consumers to obtain that level of savings.
As of now, Wolt has yet to respond publicly to the allegations made against them. The implications of this case could be significant, both for Wolt and for how marketing practices are regulated in Denmark, potentially affecting consumer trust and expectations in future communications from businesses regarding discounts and promotions.
