Encounter Between Police and Smugglers in Rampur, 3 Arrested

On Tuesday in Rampur, a confrontation occurred between the police and a group of smugglers. The incident took place in the Kaimri police station area during a routine checking operation. When police signalled three individuals riding a motorcycle to stop, they attempted to flee, prompting the police to pursue them. As the chase ensued, the suspects fired upon the police team, leading to police returning fire in self-defense. One of the suspects was shot in the leg during the exchange, which allowed the police to apprehend him along with two others immediately at the scene.
In addition to the arrests, police recovered illegal items from the suspects, including two .315 bore guns, live and spent cartridges, a knife, and equipment used for animal slaughter. The police emphasized the serious nature of this confrontation, noting that the three arrested individuals have considerable criminal backgrounds, with at least two of them previously charged under the Gangster Act. This highlights ongoing issues related to organized crime and smuggling in the region.
