NKVC: explosives are currently not planned to be used on the ice in Silale after expert evaluation

The NKVC announced that based on expert evaluations, there are currently no plans to use explosives to manage ice in Silale, Lithuania.

The National Crisis Management Center (NKVC) has received results from engineering reconnaissance conducted by the Lithuanian army in the Silale district, concluding that there is no need for explosives to be used on the ice. The assessment involved weather hydrologists from the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, confirming that the recent evaluation of the area around RusnÄ— does not support the need for such measures. The experts observed that the ice in the targeted river sections has melted, making any potential detonations ineffective against flood risks.

While explosives are deemed unnecessary at this stage, the NKVC stated that support for the residents of the seaside region will continue. Local services are maintaining heightened vigilance and are in constant communication with the Silale district municipality and relevant local authorities to ensure timely assistance for the residents. The NKVC aims to ensure that any decisions regarding flood risk management are made swiftly and in coordination with local needs.

This update reflects ongoing efforts to manage potential flooding risks in Lithuania as the authorities take a proactive approach to disaster management. The collaboration between various agencies highlights the importance of a coordinated response to natural hazards, ensuring citizen safety and effective resource allocation during volatile weather conditions.
