Choose digital skills over internet fraud, EFCC boss urges Enugu students
The head of Nigeria's EFCC advises Enugu students to focus on digital skills instead of engaging in internet fraud.
Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has delivered a poignant message to students in Enugu State, emphasizing the importance of digital skills over internet fraud. During his visits to the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) and New Heaven Community Secondary School, Olukoyede, represented by Superintendent Paul Ikpor, highlighted that engaging in cybercrime might seem appealing but can lead to devastating repercussions for individuals and their families.
Ikpor stressed the seriousness of cybercrime, warning that it can not only lead to severe legal consequences but also ruin futures by destroying careers and reputations. He explained that many individuals caught in the web of internet fraud often face arrest and imprisonment, which halts their dreams and imposes significant hardships on their loved ones. The EFCC's message is a clear plea for the youth to prioritize education and positive skill development in a rapidly digitizing world.
The initiative aimed to prevent young individuals from falling prey to cybercrimes echoes the commission's commitment to educational outreach. By encouraging students to stay focused on their studies and develop expertise in digital skills, the EFCC seeks to cultivate a generation that is empowered and informed, prepared to contribute positively to society and the economy, rather than one that succumbs to the temptations of quick wealth through illicit means.
