The Leonel Brizola Bridge, popularly referred to as Mocambinho Bridge, was officially inaugurated after extensive revitalization efforts on Tuesday, the 17th, in the North Zone of Teresina. The revitalization project, which cost R$ 3.3 million, was prompted by a technical assessment from the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of Piauí, which highlighted several structural issues, including uneven surfaces and wear. The work done included the application of a new asphalt layer, rectification of surface irregularities, and improvements to the walkways on both sides of the bridge.
Additional enhancements to the bridge included the installation of new horizontal and vertical signaling, aimed at improving the road safety conditions for users in the area. This project not only addressed the immediate structural deficiencies but also sought to establish better navigational guidance for vehicles and pedestrians alike. The involvement of the Department of Highways underscores the government's commitment to infrastructure improvement and public safety.
In February, a technical evaluation revealed further concerns related to the access embankment and the walkway, noting problems such as settling and wear on structural components. The recent repairs addressed these issues, aiming to reinforce the integrity of the bridge and ensure a safer passage for commuters. The successful completion of this revitalization project marks a significant investment in local infrastructure, highlighting the importance of maintaining public facilities in urban areas.
