Fifth Bridge: Ministry assures it will take over construction of road 4 and 5, after termination of agreement with Prefecture
The Ecuadorian Infrastructure and Transport Minister announced the ministry's intention to assume responsibility for the construction of the fifth bridge's road segments 4 and 5 after the termination of a previous agreement with the Prefecture due to lack of progress.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Roberto Luque, has declared that the ministry will take over the construction of the fourth and fifth road segments of the Quinto Puente (Fifth Bridge) project after terminating its agreement with the Prefecture. He emphasized the lack of progress on complementary works essential to the advancement of this critical infrastructure project, which is intended to enhance connectivity and transport in Ecuador.
Luque pointed out that the agreement signed in 2024 had stipulated that funding would be disbursed in phases based on the progress of work. A total of $120 million was allocated, with an initial disbursement of $35 million already made. He stated that funds have been provided as needed, but significant shortcomings in the execution of the project were noted, highlighting bureaucratic delays and miscommunications between the ministry and the Prefecture.
This decision underscores the Ecuadorian government's commitment to improving its infrastructure, particularly in strategic projects like the Quinto Puente, which is poised to play a crucial role in enhancing transport efficiency and economic development in the region. By stepping in, the ministry aims to ensure that the project is completed in a timely manner, thus fulfilling its obligations to the public and contributing to the overall growth of the nation.
