Satakunta's First IB High School Program is Likely to Fill Up โ€“ Principal: "Not Marketed at All"

Satakunta's first International Baccalaureate (IB) high school program has garnered interest, with 23 primary applicants for the 25 available spots, despite minimal marketing efforts.

The inaugural International Baccalaureate (IB) high school program in Satakunta has proven to be a popular option among students, as evidenced by the 23 primary applicants for the 25 available slots for the upcoming academic year. Martin Hartman, the principal of the program, expressed his satisfaction with the number of applicants, highlighting that the program has filled its slots without any substantial marketing. The only outreach regarding the program came from school counselors in Satakunta, indicating a strong local interest in this educational offering. Hartman emphasized that the program is particularly significant for the local community, as over 90% of the primary applicants are from within Satakunta's borders. The interest in the IB program suggests a growing demand for international education pathways in the region, with Hartman noting that it underscores the necessity of such a program in Satakunta. Despite the lack of promotion, the successful recruitment of students indicates that there is a clear appetite for educational diversity in the area. Last autumn, the approval for this program was granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture, marking a significant step for local high school education. Currently, only 16 schools in Finland offer the IB diploma, while over 150 countries worldwide have similar programs, further emphasizing Satakunta's entry into this global educational framework.
