Joint applications begin today โ over 90,700 study places available
The joint application process for secondary education in Finland starts today, offering over 90,700 study places for applicants graduating from basic education.
Today marks the beginning of the joint application process for secondary education institutions in Finland, including both high schools and vocational schools. This application period is targeted at those completing basic education and those who do not hold any qualifications. Running from February 17 to March 17, 2026, the application can be submitted through the Opetushallitus' Opintopolku service, which lists over 90,700 available study places for prospective students.
In addition to applications to high schools and vocational schools, students can also apply for training programs that prepare them for qualifications within the context of special support, known as TUVA training, and TELMA training, which focuses on preparing individuals for work and independent living. Furthermore, the joint application encompasses the one-year programs offered by folk high schools that cater to students subject to compulsory education requirements.
For the first time ever, the joint application includes places in English-language high school programs, with 170 spots available across seven schools. This inclusion marks a significant development in Finnish education, reflecting the country's effort to diversify its educational offerings and accommodate non-Finnish speakers, although it comes with tuition fees that will now apply to foreign students enrolling in these programs.
