Shooting in front of prison in BH leaves gang leader injured

A shooting outside the Ceresp Gameleira prison in Belo Horizonte injured Pedro Henrique Ribeiro da Silva, the alleged leader of the criminal group 'Maloquinha'.

A shooting incident occurred on Tuesday morning (17) outside the Gameleira Prison Resettlement Center in Belo Horizonte, resulting in injuries to Pedro Henrique Ribeiro da Silva, age 33, identified as the leader of the criminal organization known as 'Maloquinha'. The confrontation involved assailants in a vehicle who opened fire on Pedro Henrique, who had just been released from prison.

According to information from the Military Police, Pedro Henrique sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and another graze wound on his right leg. Following the shooting, he managed to return inside the Ceresp facility to seek refuge, where prison officials assisted him. Emergency medical services were alerted, and he was transported to João XXIII Hospital, where it was reported that his injuries are not life-threatening.

The shooter, identified as 19-year-old Matheus Henrique Pereira dos Santos, was recognized and apprehended in the vicinity of Avenida Presidente Antônio Carlos. He has been arrested on charges of attempted homicide. This incident highlights ongoing gang violence in the region and raises concerns regarding the safety and security measures surrounding prisoners as they transition back into society.
