Three inmates have died within a span of two days at the Ceresp Gameleira prison in the western region of Belo Horizonte, leading to an investigation by the police. The first death occurred on Thursday morning when Douglas Menezes Alcântara, 39, reported severe body pain after an alleged assault by other inmates. He was treated at the prison's health center and was supposed to be transferred to a public hospital, but he lost consciousness and could not be revived.

Later on Thursday, another inmate, Eder Bruno Pereira, aged 42, who had been receiving medical attention since his arrival at the facility, also passed away. The circumstances surrounding both deaths are currently under scrutiny, with authorities looking into potential wrongdoing within the prison that could have led to these tragic events.
