Acre is the state with the highest number of defaulters in the country in January, says study

Acre leads Brazil in defaulters with 66.95% of its population in arrears, according to a Serasa study from January.

A recent study conducted by Serasa revealed that Acre has the highest rate of defaulters in Brazil, with a staggering 66.95% of its population experiencing financial difficulties. This figure exceeds the national average, which stands at 49.66%. The report highlights that over 81 million Brazilians are in default, marking an increase of 6.7% compared to January of the previous year.

Alongside Acre, the study noted that the Federal District and the state of Amazonas also have significant defaulter rates, with 61.78% and 58.17% respectively. It appears that the defaulter phenomenon is notably affecting women more than men, with 50.5% of female Brazilians in financial distress compared to 49.5% of males. The age demographic most impacted are those between 41 and 60 years old, comprising 35.6% of defaulters, followed closely by the 26 to 40 age group at 33.4%.

The implications of this growing trend of indebtedness could be far-reaching, affecting local economies and financial systems. As individuals struggle with payments, the demand for assistance and financial literacy programs may rise. The increased focus on repayment strategies and the potential for economic reforms can also emerge as key discussions point, particularly in states like Acre that are disproportionately affected.
