'I just need to use the bathroom...' Escapee fooled the police team and fled
A prisoner in Banda, Uttar Pradesh managed to escape from police custody by tricking officers into allowing him to go to the bathroom.
In Banda, Uttar Pradesh, a dramatic incident unfolded when a prisoner cleverly deceived the police, leading to a temporary chaos within the police department. The prisoner, identified as Chunnu, was brought to a local court under police protection for a hearing related to a theft case registered against him in January 2026. After the hearing, he requested permission to use the bathroom, which the officers allowed, not anticipating that he intended to escape during this moment of opportunity.
As Chunnu made his way to the bathroom, he successfully executed his plan for escape, leaving the police officers unaware of his intention. It was only after an unusually long delay that the officers realized he had not returned, prompting them to initiate a search. The incident raised serious concerns about the level of security and oversight provided by the police force, highlighting a significant lapse in the handling of a prisoner in custody.
In response to the escape, senior police officials were alerted, and Superintendent Palash Bansal organized three teams to conduct an extensive search for Chunnu. The police have stated their commitment to recapturing the escaped prisoner and ensuring strict action against him for the escape, as well as addressing the lapses in security during prisoner transport and custody.
