'Sir, I have a stomach ache', two gangsters escaped by opening the lockup gate
Two gangsters in Uttar Pradesh escaped from police custody by feigning a stomach ache and attacking the officer on duty, but were recaptured shortly after.
In Siddharthnagar district's Shohratgarh police station, two gangsters, Atul alias Indra Kapoor and Mohammad Rakeeb, escaped from custody by creating a ruse of stomach pain around 6 AM. These criminals, who had bounties of 25,000 rupees on their heads, managed to deceive the police staff into opening the lockup door by claiming medical distress, and then violently attacked the constable guarding them as they fled the scene. The incident caused immediate panic in the police station, prompting officers to alert higher authorities.
Acting swiftly on the directive of Superintendent of Police Abhishek Mahajan, a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and station officers quickly surrounded the area. Within just two hours, the police successfully located and apprehended the fugitives from an adjacent field near Chaudhary Lawn. Following legal protocols, both criminals were taken back into custody and subsequently sent to jail, demonstrating the efficiency of the police response despite the initial blunder.
This incident highlights a significant lapse in police protocols regarding the management of high-risk detainees. The ease with which the gangsters staged their escape suggests a need for better training and stricter oversight in custody procedures. Such occurrences can undermine public trust in law enforcement, necessitating a thorough investigation and potential reforms to prevent similar attempts in the future.
