Reversal in the concession case for TV Republika: 'The station has until the end of March'
The case regarding the broadcasting concession for TV Republika has gained attention as the National Broadcasting Council sets a deadline for payment.
The issue surrounding the broadcasting concession for TV Republika has resurfaced, as detailed reports indicate that the National Broadcasting Council became aware in December 2025 that the annual fee for the station had not been received, despite the deadline having been September 1. Consequently, the council has mandated TV Republika to pay the sum of 1.79 million zÅ, which includes a delay fee of 129,000 zÅ, by January 15, 2026. This development has raised questions about the station's financial obligations and compliance with broadcasting regulations.
In response to the council's concern, TV Republika made a partial payment and proposed to settle the remaining amount by June, offering to pay 700,000 zÅ instead of the remaining 900,000 zÅ. The station also requested to modify the payment structure from annual installments to monthly payments, a request the council has not approved. Despite this, TV Republika has been making monthly payments to cover the shortfall, showcasing their commitment to resolving the financial dilemma.
At a recent council meeting, Agnieszka Glapiak, the chair of the council, confirmed that TV Republika has indeed failed to meet the full annual payment. Her history with the political landscape, having collaborated with prominent figures like Mariusz BÅaszczak, adds a layer of complexity to the situation. This ongoing issue not only impacts the financial stability of TV Republika, but also raises broader implications about regulatory oversight of media organizations in Poland and the potential political dynamics at play in media concessions.
