Breaking: Special Prosecutor Conducts Raids on the Ministry of the Interior, Defense, Foreign Affairs, and Security Service Regarding Yoon Seok-yeol's Residence Relocation Allegations
A special prosecutor's team has launched extensive raids on several government ministries in connection with allegations surrounding the relocation of President Yoon Seok-yeol's official residence.
On the morning of the 17th, the special prosecutor's team led by Kwon Chang-young began comprehensive searches at key government departments including the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Presidential Security Service. These actions are part of an investigation into allegations against People Power Party lawmaker Yoon Han-hong, who is suspected of abusing his power to obstruct official rights related to the presidential residence's relocation. Previously, the prosecutor's team had executed a search warrant at Yoon's residence in Seoul regarding these matters.
Lawyer Yoon Han-hong was involved in managing the task force for relocating the presidential office during Yoon Seok-yeol's presidency. He has been accused of directing former Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Kim Oh-jin to commission the renovations at the new residence, specifically indicating that the work should go to the interior company 21 Grams, which was reportedly chosen by Kim Geon-hee, the First Lady. The special prosecutor’s investigation raises significant concerns about the transparency and legality surrounding the relocation process, especially given the alleged influence of the First Lady.
The raids mark a critical stage in the ongoing investigations related to various public figures in the Yoon administration, with the potential implications highlighting the continuing challenges faced by the current government. As public scrutiny intensifies regarding allegations of corruption and abuse of power, these developments could lead to further inquiries and impact the political landscape in Korea significantly.
