Gunmen kill deaf man, abduct seven in Kaduna community

Suspected bandits attacked Sabon Gyero community in Kaduna State, Nigeria, killing one man and abducting seven others.

On Monday, a horrific attack took place in the Sabon Gyero community located in the Millennium City area of Kaduna State, Nigeria, where gunmen believed to be part of a bandit group invaded the neighborhood. During the early morning raid, the assailants killed a deaf and mute man named Abdullahi Lawal, who was shot in the head at a local phone charging center. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital. In addition to this violence, the bandits kidnapped seven individuals, including three women and four children, alarming local residents and further highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region.

The attack reflects the growing insecurity in many parts of Nigeria, particularly in the northern states where banditry has become a pervasive issue. Communities often find themselves at the mercy of these armed groups who carry out such brazen attacks without fear of repercussions. The incident has raised concerns among residents about their safety and the ability of local security forces to respond effectively to these threats. Eyewitnesses reported that alongside the abduction, the assailants stole several mobile phones and laptops, suggesting that such attacks are not only about kidnapping for ransom but also involve theft and violence.

In the wake of this attack, local leaders and the authorities, including the Commandant of the Joint Task Force in the area, Uwaisu Yunusa, have been prompted to reassess their security strategies. The community mourns the loss of Lawal, who was buried shortly after the incident in accordance with Islamic rites. This tragic event underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect vulnerable communities in Kaduna and similar regions suffering from banditry and violent crime.
