Abduction of seven sparks protest in Kaduna community
Residents in Kaduna, Nigeria, protested against recurring kidnappings after seven people were abducted by suspected bandits.
In the Danhonu II community of New Millennium City, Kaduna State, residents took to the streets to protest against a series of kidnappings, intensified by the recent abduction of seven individuals by armed men. The protest, which culminated in a blockade of a major roadway leading to the Millennium City Divisional Police Headquarters, reflected the community's frustration with ongoing insecurity and their demand for immediate police intervention to protect them from further attacks.
The incident occurred late Sunday night when a group of armed men stormed into the community and abducted members from two families. Among those kidnapped were Malam Yahaya Yusuf, his wife Latifat, and their sons Abdulgafar and Abdulqudus, as well as Mrs. Abdulrazak Jimoh and her children. This latest incident added to the growing tally of kidnapping incidents in the area, which residents say has now reached eleven cases in just a few months, eroding their sense of safety and well-being.
Community members expressed their anger and fear during the protest, emphasizing that local authorities needed to take urgent action. They claimed that these kidnappings were being treated lightly by law enforcement and called for stronger measures to address the root cause of the violence and insecurity plaguing their community. The cumulative impact of such attacks not only instills fear in residents but also disrupts everyday life and could potentially lead to larger social consequences if left unaddressed.
