Piauí Government inaugurates Equotherapy Center in Floriano; see how to access

The Piauí State Government has inaugurated an Equotherapy Center in Floriano to assist individuals with disabilities through therapeutic horseback riding.

On Monday, the Piauí State Government, in partnership with the Secretariat for the Inclusion of People with Disabilities (Seid) and the Military Police of Piauí (PM-PI), inaugurated the new Equotherapy Center in Floriano, located in southern Piauí. This center follows the successful models established in Teresina and Parnaíba and aims to utilize horses within an interdisciplinary approach to promote the biopsychosocial development of people with disabilities. The initiative highlights the state's commitment to inclusivity and support for vulnerable populations.

The Equotherapy project has received significant investment, totaling over R$ 600 thousand, funded through a parliamentary amendment from state deputy Dr. Marcus Vinícius Kalume along with contributions from the state treasury. The center is strategically situated at the Floriano Expo Park and features a comprehensive infrastructure, including administrative areas, consultation rooms, a playroom, a riding arena, and stables for the horses. This setup is designed to facilitate the therapeutic process and ensure a welcoming environment for participants.

Initially, the center is expected to assist around 30 individuals, comprising children, youth, and adults, with therapeutic sessions scheduled from Monday to Thursday in the morning. This initiative not only aims to enhance the quality of life for participants but also serves as a vital step towards promoting social inclusion and improving mental health services for people with disabilities in the region.
