Fire in Kaunas apartment building: firefighters rescued a person poisoned by smoke

A fire in a nine-story apartment building in Kaunas resulted in the rescue of a man who had been poisoned by smoke.

On March 16, a report was received at the Fire and Rescue Department regarding a fire in a nine-story apartment building located on Partizanų Street in Kaunas. Firefighters arrived at the scene around 3:46 PM and were informed by neighbors that the fire had started in an eighth-floor apartment. Upon arrival, they detected the smell of smoke in the building's stairwell.

Once inside the affected apartment, firefighters found a man lying on the floor who had been poisoned by smoke. They swiftly carried him outside and handed him over to emergency medical personnel for treatment. Preliminary findings indicated that a pot was burning in the kitchen, and the entire apartment had become filled with smoke, complicating the situation for both the man and the responding firefighters.

The fire was extinguished quickly, and the firefighters ventilated the apartment to eliminate the smoke. The incident is currently under investigation by the appropriate authorities, highlighting ongoing concerns about fire safety in residential buildings.
