Detro tows BRT bus that connects Mesquita and terminal in Irajá
The Detro-RJ agency towed the first bus of Line 77 of the BRT in Mesquita, marking the beginning of a new route connecting Irajá and Mesquita.
The Department of Road Transport of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Detro-RJ) towed the first bus from BRT Line 77 on the morning of October 16. This line connects the Petro Fernandes Terminal in Irajá, located in the North Zone of Rio, to Praça João Luiz Nascimento in Mesquita, part of the Baixada Fluminense. This new connection was announced by the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro, but according to Detro-RJ, it is not within the municipality's authority to create inter-municipal lines, as this is a state responsibility.
This incident occurred when the bus reached its last stop on its inaugural day of operation. Initially, Line 77 is set to operate from Monday to Friday, between 10 AM and 4 PM, with an average interval of 15 minutes between trips. The new line represents the first integration of a municipality from the Baixada Fluminense into the BRT Transbrasil system, aiming to enhance public transportation connectivity in the region.
The Pedro Fernandes Metropolitan BRT Terminal opened just two days earlier, on October 14, and is designed to improve traffic movement within the area. Despite the logistical challenges presented by the towing of the inaugural bus, the new line is expected to serve important connectivity needs between the metropolitan area and Baixada Fluminense, reflecting efforts to expand the public transport network in Greater Rio.
