After dispute, Government of RJ and City Hall of Rio announce 'experimental buses' between Mesquita and Terminal Margaridas
An experimental bus operation will start between Mesquita and Terminal Margaridas in Rio de Janeiro after an agreement between the state government and the city hall.
The Department of Road Transport of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Detro-RJ) announced that a new bus operation will begin on Tuesday, consisting of 15 buses running on three experimental routes connecting Mesquita, located in Baixada Fluminense, to Terminal Margaridas in IrajΓ‘, a neighborhood in the northern zone of Rio. This decision comes after a consensus was reached between state government officials and the city hall.
The buses will operate from 9 AM to 3:30 PM, following specific routes and charging a fare of R$ 6.70. Outside of these hours, the buses will continue traveling to Central do Brasil, providing additional travel options. These experimental lines aim to enhance connectivity in the region and are part of a broader initiative to evaluate future bidding processes for intermunicipal bus routes in the state.
Despite this development, the city hall of Mesquita has denied that it authorized a BRT line connecting the municipality to the terminal on Avenida Brasil. This highlights ongoing tensions and disputes between local government authorities and raises questions about the planning and approval processes concerning public transport initiatives. The implementation of these experimental lines may pave the way for improved public transportation in the region, benefiting residents and potentially influencing future transport policies.
