They came to reconcile, but a funeral was carried out... In Izzat Nagar, the son-in-law took the lives of his mother-in-law and brother-in-law
A village council meeting in Bareilly turned tragic when a son-in-law murdered his mother-in-law and brother-in-law during an argument over his marital disputes.
In a shocking incident in the Rahpura Chaudhary village of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a murder case unfolded during a village council (panchayat) meeting intended to resolve marital discord. The accused, Afzar Khan, reportedly became aggressive during the mediation efforts and resorted to violence, fatally stabbing his mother-in-law, Asma, and brother-in-law, Adil. This act of violence caused widespread fear and upheaval within the community, transforming a peaceful gathering intended for reconciliation into a site of tragedy.
According to eyewitnesses, the meeting was an attempt to resolve ongoing disputes between Afzar and his wife, Sayma. As tensions escalated, Afzar produced a knife and attacked both Asma and Adil in a brutal flurry. In a desperate attempt to intervene, his wife was also injured in the chaos, with both Asma and Adil succumbing to their injuries while being transported to the hospital. Sayma is currently receiving medical treatment for her wounds, amplifying the horror of the event as it highlights the extreme outcomes of domestic disputes.
In response to the violence, authorities, including the ADG of the Bareilly zone and local police officials, swiftly arrived at the scene. They are investigating the incident further and have gathered CCTV footage to piece together the sequence of events leading to the murder. This incident raises critical questions about conflict resolution practices in rural areas and the importance of ensuring safety during such mediative processes, as well as addressing underlying issues of domestic violence.
