Technology courses for the elderly: Metrópole Digital Institute of UFRN offers 90 free spots

The Metrópole Digital Institute at UFRN is offering 90 free technology courses for elderly individuals, aimed at enhancing digital inclusion.

The Metrópole Digital Institute (IMD) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) is set to open registrations on Wednesday, 18th, for free basic smartphone and computer courses specifically designed for individuals aged 60 and above. This initiative is part of the Digital Inclusion Project for the Elderly (ProEIDI) that aims to empower older citizens by providing them with essential digital skills in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The Project will offer a total of 90 spots, and interested participants must apply in person at the IMD, located in room A203, to collect their application form. Starting in 2026, the selection process for filling these spots will shift to a lottery system scheduled for March 28, 2026, with live broadcasts via Instagram and YouTube alongside in-person participation at the IMD. Selected candidates will be notified through mobile and email, after which they must confirm their enrollment in person.

Scheduled for the 2026.1 session, the IMD will organize classes for these courses to ensure that elderly participants can engage with basic technology effectively. The courses will not only enhance their understanding of digital devices but also help bridge the generational divide in technology usage, fostering greater inclusion and connectivity among senior citizens in the community.
