A tragic incident has occurred in Nepal where a microbus carrying a group of Indian pilgrims fell into a gorge in Gorkha district, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals. The accident took place as the pilgrims were returning from visiting the Manakamana Temple, a popular religious site. Reports indicate that the microbus lost control and plunged approximately 200 meters down a slope in the Sahid Lakhan rural municipality area.
The Gorkha District Police Office confirmed that there were a total of 14 passengers in the microbus, with seven confirmed dead at the scene, including five men and two women, all of whom were Indian nationals. Among the survivors, seven others sustained serious injuries and have been transported to the College of Medical Sciences in Bharatpur, Chitwan for treatment. The deputy director of the hospital, Sudip Raj K.C., reported that nine injured individuals arrived at the hospital, and of those, five remain in critical condition.
This accident raises concerns over road safety in the region, especially considering the high volume of traffic related to religious tourism. With the number of casualties and severe injuries, the incident highlights the need for better road regulations and the implementation of safety measures for vehicles operating in mountainous areas, particularly those transporting tourists and pilgrims.
