Managing Diversity is No Longer an Asset, but a Necessity

The article discusses the increasing necessity for diversity management in the Polish job market due to rising demographic changes and a record number of older and foreign workers.

The Polish job market is experiencing significant changes with a record 10% employment rate among retirees and 1.29 million legally working foreigners. This indicates a growing diversity within the workforce as generational and cultural variety becomes commonplace among Polish workers. Notably, studies show that such diversity is now a daily reality for a growing segment of the labor population.

Demographic shifts are expected to further intensify this trend in the coming years, characterized by a declining youth population and a smaller working-age demographic, juxtaposed against the growing representation of individuals aged 65 and older. Projections from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) suggest that the share of elderly workers will increase from nearly 20% in 2023 to over 29% by 2050. This presents challenges for employers who must adapt to these demographic changes to remain competitive in their industries.

Experts, including Marzena Strzelczak from the Forum for Responsible Business, emphasize that Polish employers of all sizes will need to focus more on fostering diverse workplaces to attract and retain talent. Consequently, it will become increasingly difficult for companies to showcase a "young, dynamic" workforce, requiring them to embrace diverse employment practices as a fundamental aspect of their business strategies.
